Not car related at all, but the Tomb Raider reboot is about the most fun I've had with an action game in a long time. That I got it for 10 reais (3 dollars) on a promotion on Steam makes it even better. If you haven't played it, I strongly recommend you do so. Because it's awesome.

I rented it through gamefly a while back. Decent for a triple a game. I wish there was more hunting and open maps, little too QTE and linear for me
I will say this much, Tomb Reboot (Toboot? Reraider?) was really good at beating the crap out of Laura Croft. Oh god, the parachute scene *shudder*

It was a bit linear I think, but I was expecting it to be a lot more from the few reviews I've read. As it went, it didn't feel as forced or unexplorable as reviewers made it seem, neither did it feel "artificial" to collect everything from a map before moving on, regardless of the people screaming on your radio. I kind of agree on the hunting part, but, and this is gonna sound weird considering the whole survivor aspect, I'm glad the game didn't make you stop all the time to eat, drink and sleep. It might have been interesting, but I'd hate to slow down all the time to do it. As for the QTEs, I didn't mind them so much. The vast majority followed the standard controller layout (X to hold on to something, B to get out of the way of something, Y to hit something, right trigger to shoot something) instead of arbitrary button combinations, so you kind of always knew what to expect. Plus, Lara moves around the stages so quickly and with such ease that just running and jumping around, and dodging, counterattacking and crossing a map without even touching the ground was pretty fun.
And yeah, she does get pretty beat up along the game... I remember there was some controversy around that, people complaining that she was made vulnerable and "rapable" in the game, but then she goes and blows up a fucking mountain with a lighter and a handful of arrows, builds a makeshift machinegun with a grenade launcher out of the blue, survives everything thrown at her, and moves so quickly some enemies actually bitch about the game being unfair. If that's vulnerable, I'm fucking dead.

I have gold, what I don't have is an Xbox though :p
Seriously, an Xbox is expensive as fuck in Brazil. You can get a pretty pimping PC for less than one.

I like the way zero punctuation summed it up, "they've confused character development with getting the shit kicked out of her"
Although your second paragraph does show how character dev'ing is tough in a game. We're gamers, we're used to just mowing down hordes of nazis, and zombies, and the inevitable yet overplayed crossover nazi zombies. Showing the weight of the kills or weakness in the protagonist is difficult when you can mow down baddies like your mother's front lawn

I dunno man, I actually liked it. To be honest, I'm not that big on mindlessly killing hordes of enemies, or when a game puts you in a big empty room and doesn't open the way out until you've killed a whole battalion's worth of bad guys, so I actually enjoyed how they shifted the focus away from that. Less kills, more meaning to each one, and not just on the effect they had on Lara, but on the surviving enemies as well, who suddenly couldn't get any replies on the radio, or any new patrols from the fortress.
In fact, they seemed to take a less is more approach to the entire game. You don't get to level 120 and increase 20 basic atributes as you go, but you level up a handful of times and every time you do, you get a new ability, instead of numbers in a character sheet. You don't get a Thousand different guns, you get only 4, each one with a well defined function. It felt simple and intuitive all the way through.

I saw this just popped up on XBox live games for gold. I was thinking about it, maybe I'll have to get it. I'm on a Froza 3 (yea i'm behind) kick right now.

I heard some people complain about the story, that it was cliched to involve the supernatural towards the end, but being a reboot, I actually thought the story fit right in. This isn't the tenth or twentieth in game in the series, it's the first all over again, and I thought it was awesome it restablished the "feel" of the series.

Maybe, but an xbox alone would have cost more than what I paid for my PC here in Brazil, and I doubt it would be as powerful, or that I would have played as many games if I had to pay 200 reais for each one.
There are absolutely zero reasons to own a console in Brazil.

Do it! Despite some complaints from a couple reviewers who just couldn't see the "avant garde" in it, this game deserves all the praise it's gotten.

With as much blood and gore as is in this game (between the rivers of blood and dismembered bodies, and the scenes like missing a dodge while sliding down a hill and getting your throat impaled on something), this is probably the first game I'd say that outside of atmosphere (Slender, Silent Hill, etc.) is genuinely inappropriate to let kids play. I don't fault it for that, at all. I LOVED the game, and keep gifting copies to friends on Steam to share the love, but man...There is some messed up stuff going on, on that island!
